Introduction
Every year, as part of the BA Fine Art, BA Creative Art Practice and MArt courses, Sheffield Hallam University invites guest speakers from across the art world to share their knowledge and experiences as practicing professionals. It is hoped that by the end of the week, students will have a better understanding of what steps to take in order to develop their individual practices and achieve their career goals.
The week ahead:
Monday 18: How to generate a practice and write about it, with George Shaw, James Clarkson and Emilie Taylor.
Tuesday 19: Networks, opportunities and presenting yourself as an artist, with Emily Speed and Simona Dell-Agli.
Wednesday 20: Pitfalls and potentials in the visual art sector, with The Precarious Workers Brigade and Christian Zimmerman.
Thursday 21: Parallel professions that support practice – developing and diversifying professional experience, with Lesley Guy and Kate Squires.
Friday 22: Galleries, commissioners & funders, what they want, making applications and approaches, with Emilia Telese and Kerry Harker.
